A Letter Before We Begin
If you're reading this, thank you.
Whether we've known each other for years or only recently crossed paths, there's a reason I'm sharing this with you.
I'm not sending you a finished idea.
I'm inviting you into the earliest chapter of something I care deeply about.
Over the years, I've been incredibly fortunate to learn from mentors, colleagues, clients, founders, artists, friends, and people from backgrounds very different from my own.
Looking back, I realise those conversations shaped far more than my career.
They shaped how I think.
How I approach problems.
How I build relationships.
How I lead.
How I see the world.
Ultimately, they shaped who I've become.
BOB exists because I believe more people deserve those kinds of conversations.
Not by chance.
But by design.
This proposal isn't a request for investment.
It's an invitation to help shape something before it's finished.
Because if BOB is built on the belief that people shape people, then it feels only right that BOB itself is shaped by many people, too.
Executive Summary
BOB Studios is a living ecosystem built around one simple belief:
People shape people.
Throughout our lives, we are constantly influenced by conversations, relationships, shared experiences, and different ways of seeing the world.
Some lessons come from formal education.
Others come from mentors.
Some come from clients.
Others come from colleagues, friends, books, failures, travel, or simply sharing a table with someone whose life has been very different from our own.
BOB exists to intentionally create more opportunities for those moments to happen.
Rather than functioning as a traditional networking organization or event company, BOB is designed as an ecosystem where meaningful conversations, shared experiences, practical learning, and diverse perspectives help people continue becoming.
The goal is not to build the biggest community.
The goal is to build one that people trust.
One that quietly changes lives.
Why This Matters
We have more ways to connect than ever before.
Yet meaningful connection often feels increasingly rare.
Professionals attend networking events and leave with business cards but few lasting relationships.
Founders often make difficult decisions in isolation.
Many experienced professionals carry decades of wisdom that rarely find the right audience.
At the same time, many people quietly carry a list of things they've always wanted to try, learn, or experience—but never do because they don't have someone to go with.
Others simply need someone to tell them,
"I've been there too."
I don't believe these are separate problems.
I believe they're symptoms of the same thing.
We need more intentional spaces where people can learn from one another... not only professionally, but personally.
Spaces where questions are welcomed.
Where curiosity matters more than certainty.
Where different perspectives are celebrated.
Where people don't feel pressure to have all the answers.
Where stories are shared honestly.
Where people leave not only with new ideas, but with the reminder that they are not alone.
Why Me?
One question I've asked myself repeatedly is:
Why am I the person building this?
The answer isn't because I believe I have all the answers.
It's because, looking back, I realise I've been building pieces of BOB throughout my career without ever calling it that.
Years ago, while leading a team, I created an initiative called Learn From Professionals.
Rather than relying solely on internal training, I invited clients and experienced professionals to have honest conversations with the team about their journeys, challenges, mistakes, and lessons.
The most valuable part was never the presentation.
It was the conversation that followed.
Throughout my career, I've also found myself naturally connecting people.
Someone entering a new industry.
Someone building an NGO.
Someone searching for guidance.
Someone looking for the right partner.
If I believed two people could help one another, I introduced them.
Not because I expected anything in return.
Simply because I believed the right conversation could change someone's direction.
That same philosophy later shaped how I built Aitken Partners.
One lesson stayed with me:
Partner with smart people. You don't have to be the best at everything.
Over time, I realised meaningful ecosystems are built through trusted relationships rather than individual expertise.
Looking back, I wasn't simply building a consultancy.
I was building an ecosystem.
I just didn't know it yet.
4. The Seeds Were Already There
Looking back, I don't think BOB began the day I decided to build it.
I think it began years earlier.
In 2021, while building my own business, I wrote an article about something I wasn't hearing enough people talk about.
The loneliness of entrepreneurship.
At the time, I wasn't trying to build a community.
I wasn't creating a philosophy.
I simply remember thinking:
If I'm feeling this way, surely other entrepreneurs are too.
So I wrote honestly about the emotional realities of building something from nothing.
Not because I had answers.
But because I wanted someone else to know they weren't alone.
Looking back now, I realise that article captured one of the earliest expressions of what BOB would eventually become.
Over time, I realised it wasn't only entrepreneurs who carried invisible struggles.
Artists.
Doctors.
Founders.
Parents.
Students.
Dancers.
Professionals.
People changing careers.
People rebuilding after failure.
All of us carry stories that rarely make it into public conversation.
BOB exists to create spaces where those stories can be shared... not because they are extraordinary, but because someone else may need to hear them.
The Ecosystem We Hope to Build
BOB isn't built around one format.
It's built around one belief.
That people shape people.
Everything we create is simply another way for that belief to come alive.
Meaningful conversations.
Shared experiences.
Practical resources.
Stories.
Relationships.
Different perspectives.
Each strengthens the others.
The ecosystem grows through relationships rather than transactions.
Stories That Shape Us
BOB believes stories are one of the oldest ways people learn.
Not because every story has a happy ending.
But because every story carries perspective.
With permission, BOB hopes to build a Library of Becoming - a growing collection of conversations about the realities people rarely speak about publicly.
Not success stories.
Becoming stories.
Stories about failure.
Loneliness.
Identity.
Leadership.
Burnout.
Rebuilding.
Purpose.
Friendship.
Ethical dilemmas.
Fear.
Hope.
We don't collect stories to build an audience.
We collect stories to build understanding.
Our hope is simple:
That somewhere, someone hears exactly the story they needed at exactly the moment they needed it.
The Questions We Ask
BOB isn't interested in titles.
We're interested in people.
Rather than asking,
"What do you do?"
We're more interested in asking,
"What shaped you into the person you are today?"
Because titles tell us what someone has achieved.
Stories reveal how someone became.
Every conversation is an opportunity to better understand one another... and perhaps ourselves.
Practical Resources
BOB believes becoming isn't only inspired through conversations.
Sometimes it happens through practical learning.
Over time, BOB hopes to develop resources drawn from real experience.
Templates.
Frameworks.
Career toolkits.

Guest insights.
Resources that help people not only think differently... but work differently.
The goal isn't simply to share information.
It's to shorten someone else's learning curve.
Shared Experiences
Sometimes the conversation begins because people simply decide to do something together.
A dance class.
A pottery workshop.
A gallery visit.
A volunteer day.
A beginner salsa class.
A themed dinner.
An evening spent helping one another finally organise overflowing inboxes.
The activity isn't the destination.
It's simply what brings people together.
The relationships are what remain.
Different Lenses
Every discipline teaches us to see the world differently.
Every profession notices something others miss.
BOB intentionally brings different lenses into the same room because growth often begins when someone helps us see the world through a perspective we never considered before.
We don't curate for similarity.
We curate for complementary perspectives.
Protecting the Culture
Every decision should answer one question.
Does this strengthen the room we hope to build?
Trust matters more than growth.
Character matters more than titles.
Curiosity matters more than certainty.
Culture should never become the price of success.
Sustainability
BOB is intended to grow thoughtfully rather than quickly.
The first rooms may be self-funded.
As the ecosystem grows, sustainability may come through participation fees, aligned partnerships, corporate collaborations, learning resources, and sponsors who genuinely believe in investing in meaningful communities.
Revenue exists to sustain the mission.
It should never become the mission.
What Success Looks Like
Success won't be measured by attendance alone.
Instead, we'll ask questions like:
Did someone leave feeling less alone?
Did someone gain a perspective they didn't have before?
Did someone finally try something they'd been putting off?
Did a conversation continue long after the gathering ended?
Did someone meet a future collaborator, mentor, or friend?
Did someone leave feeling seen?
If the answer is consistently yes, then I believe BOB is succeeding.
Why I Need Your Help
Everything I've written in these pages exists because other people invested in me.
Mentors challenged my thinking.
Clients trusted me.
Friends introduced me to new perspectives.
Professionals generously shared their experiences.
I don't want BOB to be built by one person.
I want it to be shaped by people who believe meaningful conversations matter.
Who believe stories matter.
Who believe relationships matter.
Who believe people shape people.
I'm not asking you to build this for me.
I'm asking whether you'd be willing to help shape it with me.
Challenge my thinking.
Share your perspective.
Open doors where you see opportunities.
Introduce me to people I should know.
Protect the culture.
Help build the kind of ecosystem you wish existed when you were starting your own journey.
An Invitation
BOB is still becoming.
So am I.
If this vision resonates with you, I'd be honoured if you became part of its earliest chapter.
Not because it's finished.
But precisely because it isn't.
Perhaps years from now, someone will look back on a conversation that happened in a BOB room and realise it quietly changed the direction of their life.
Perhaps not because they received brilliant advice.
